EAISI FAST Lab

A collaboration between Eindhoven University of Technology, Diversey, ExRobotics, Lely, Rademaker and Vanderlande.

The FAST LAB centers its research on three core themes: task-driven configurable SLAM, data association and object tracking, and smart person-AGV interactions.

To drive these advancements, the lab leverages key technical AI components, focusing primarily on:

  • Autonomous Agents & Robotics
  • Computer Vision
  • Decision Making
  • Knowledge Representation & Reasoning
  • Machine Learning

With a commitment to explainable and socially aware systems designed for safe, performant operation in open-world environments.

Sustainable Development Goals

About the lab

The EAISI FAST LAB (Frontiers in Autonomous Systems Technology) is dedicated to bridging the gap between academic research in autonomous systems and real-world industrial mobile robot applications.

The lab’s mission and vision are to build the fundamental knowledge base, technological tools, and software architectures necessary to transition to a new generation of explainable, safe, and performant robots operating in semi-open environments supported and enhanced by semantic world models and smart human-robot interaction.

The impact of the lab lies in accelerating technology adoption and commercial deployment, achieved by validating breakthroughs directly in out-of-lab operational settings alongside industrial partners, fostering student talent development and co-located research, and embedding explainable, socially aware, and ethical AI frameworks to build trust across the high-tech systems ecosystem.

Research projects

Task-driven configurable SLAM – Focuses on developing marker-free mapping and localization systems that can automatically self-assess, self-analyze, and adapt their configuration to fit specific robot use-cases.

Data association and object tracking – Focuses on building and maintaining a dynamic semantic world model using Multiple Hypothesis Tracking (MHT) to manage movable and dynamic objects under occlusions.

Reliable, scalable, and maintainable software architectures – Focuses on designing composable algorithms, system building patterns, and long-term maintenance tools for heterogeneous autonomous mobile fleets.

Smart person-AGV interactions – Focuses on context awareness and socially aware navigation in human-populated environments, enabling robots to recognize human intentions and proactively communicate their own.
